2020 is not just the start of a brand new decade, it’s also an opportunity to finally get your Fantasy Football team sorted out. If you’re already doing well, you need to keep going to ensure nobody in your league can catch you. If you’re struggling, like me, then fear not – there is still half a season left in the tank to right the wrongdoings from the opening half of sheer disappointment and frustration. It’s got to start immediately, though.
Ahead of a very busy, full-looking midweek Premier League schedule, the Betting Directory thought we’d try and help you maximise your Fantasy Football points total, aren’t we nice? Below, you’ll find three budget players to bring in this week to help assist your expensive main attractions. Each selection has been carefully thought out, with their recent form analysed to (hopefully) earn you some valuable points.
Martin Dúbravka – Newcastle United
You may feel as though including Newcastle goalkeeper Martin Dúbravka into this list is somewhat of an unusual decision considering the fact that the Magpies have lost their previous two matches, and Dúbravka has conceded six goals within that time. Reading all that back, I’m even starting to doubt myself. However, there is a method to my madness.
You see, even though the 30-year-old has been on the wrong end of two results over the festive period, he has still produced some good individual performances, especially against Everton on Saturday, where he made 8 saves which earned him a bonus point between the sticks. Dúbravka is one of the best shot-stoppers in the league and is expected to face plenty of action against Leicester on New Year’s Day when Jamie Vardy returns to the fold for the Foxes. Even if Newcastle struggle, the Slovakian could make a host of saves which will earn him some valuable bonus points for your team. If he keeps a clean sheet, you’re laughing.
Price: £5m

Aaron Mooy – Brighton
Aside from the freely-scoring Neal Maupay up front, Brighton’s most important player this season has been midfielder Aaron Mooy. The Huddersfield Town loanee proved his class in the top-flight with the Terriers before their relegation to the Championship and is doing it again with the Seagulls this time out. Mooy has the ability to control the tempo of a game from the centre of the park and creates chances for the club’s more creative attacking threats up front, just like he did against Bournemouth on Saturday.
The Australia international played a huge part in Alireza Jahanbakhsh’s opener at the AMEX, before finding the net himself to make it 2-0 late on. Brighton host Chelsea in the early kick-off on New Year’s Day and though the Blues have looked assured in front of goal this term, they have been conceding them at an alarming rate in recent weeks, which suggests that Brighton could find some joy in this fixture on home soil; if they do, it’s more than likely that Mooy will be at the heart of it.

Adama Traore – Wolves
The final selection in our list this week is Wolves’ flying winger Adama Traore. This lad is fast. A little too fast, perhaps, and against a Watford back-line that possesses very little pace, he could find plenty of openings at Vicarage Road. Now let’s not be stupid, Watford are not the side they were a few weeks ago. New gaffer Nigel Pearson has got (scared) the Hornets (into) playing some decent football and the return of captain Troy Deeney seems to have ignited some much-needed belief around the Hertfordshire club.
With that said, Wolves are a really strong side who rested some of their key men against Liverpool at the weekend, so should prove to be really stiff opposition on Wednesday. Traore is in scintillating form right now. The 23-year-old absolutely stole the show in the 3-2 win over Man City on Friday night – scoring and assisting once – so will head into this showdown against Watford brimming with confidence. At just £5.5m, he’s a complete steal.
