Follow live: Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal square off in French Open semifinals

How to describe Ashleigh Barty’s win over unseeded 17-year old Amanda Anisimova in the Roland Garros semis? Barty led 5-0, 40-15, after winning 17 of the first 18 points, only to lose the set in a tiebreaker. Anisimova then led by a set and 3-0, thanks to a 12-point run, but Barty mounted a furious fightback to level and ultimately take the lead. Anisimova was down 2-5, 15-40 (three match points), but powered her way to a hold. She managed to fight off two more match points before capitulating in hour and 53 minutes, 7-6 (4), 6-3, 6-3. Barty converted eight of a whopping 20 break points, a testament to Anisimova’s ability to fight those off. Barty made almost twice as many winners, 40-21, while Anisimova littered the court with 41 unforced errors. Barty will now play a final against another teen-ager, 19-year old Marketa Vondrouskova.
