It’s the final day of the Cheltenham Festival and what a day it promises to be. The Blue Riband event takes centre stage at 3.30pm as it’s Gold Cup time and we’ve got bets for the big one, as well as for all of the other races, right here…
Who wins the Gold Cup? Well, 16 of the past 18 winners came from the first three in the betting, so our attention is naturally drawn to the leading trio of Presenting Percy, Native River and Clan Des Obeaux.
Native River returns to defend his title and will bid to become the first back-to-back winner since Best Mate, despite not being at his very best this season. Clan Des Obeaux has been impressive, not least when winning the King George at Kempton on Boxing Day, although we have to stick with Presenting Percy.
Percy is bidding for a third successive win at Cheltenham Festival and his RSA Chase success of twelve months ago sticks in our mind. He was so impressive that day and even his unconventional route to the Gold Cup – he hasn’t had a competitive run over fences this season – cannot put us off.
